Braces Friendly Foods Series | Baked Sweet Soy Sauce Salmon
Try this new twist to the classical Baked Salmon. Even my finicky 4 year old and my wife who doesn’t like seafood loves it! I have used a few Asian ingredients but they can be easily found in any Asian supermarket. Most cities have an Asian supermarket. If you live in Tucson AZ or Sahuarita Arizona, there are several Asian markets nearby including Lee Lee’s Oriental supermarket and G & L Imports.
Two 5-7 oz Salmon filets (I prefer Pacific over Atlantic Salmon)
5-10 tablespoons of Kecap Manis (sweet soy sauce) to taste
3-4 tablespoons of Mayonnaise
1 tablespoon of Fried Shallots
2 tablespoons of Panko bread crumbs (optional)
Coat the salmon filets with Mayonnaise and Sweet Soy Sauce. Sprinkle Panko and fried shallot crumbs on the top surface of the filets. Bake it in the preheated oven covered with Aluminum foil at 350 degrees F for 30 mins if the salmon is frozen (less time needed if filets are not frozen to start. Note: overcooked salmon will be too hard and dry). Optional: the aluminum foil can be removed for the last 5 minutes of baking to crisp the top surface. Serve it on a plate and drizzle more Kecap Manis (sweet soy sauce) to taste.
Pair this entrée with rice. Enjoy!
